The Catholic Men Association (CMA) at St Charles Lwanga Parish in the Catholic Diocese of Zomba organized a thanks giving mass to praise God for the calm and peace that prevailed after the national election held on 16 September.
Speaking during the mass, Fr. Benedict Liyao, who is the Patron of the CMA at St Charles Lwanga Parish, thanked the men’s association for expressing gratitude to God for the peace and tranquility that the country experienced after the election.
Fr. Liyao said there are many reasons to thank God because in many African countries elections are often followed by unrest, with people starting conflicts due to dissatisfaction with election results.
He added that many people only remember to ask God for mercy, but once they receive good things, they do not return to give thanks.
He urged Catholic Christians to encourage their children in their education so that they can become good leaders for the country in the future.
“Let us appreciate the CMA group here at St Charles Lwanga Parish for coming together to hold a thanks giving Mass to thank God for the peace experienced after the 16 September election. Let us, as Christians across the country, do the same.” He said.
Speaking at the event, the Chairperson of the Catholic Men Association at St Charles Lwanga Parish, Professor Francis Moto, said they thought it wise to come together to thank God for His love, which He demonstrated by ensuring that no violence occurred in the country after the elections.
He said that in many countries around the world, violence often occurs due to disagreements over election results, but in Malawi no violence happened.
The Thanks giving Mass was held under the theme: “Thanks giving Mass for Peace After Election.”
