MACRA AWARDS TOP THREE IN LETTER-WRITING CONTEST

The Malawi Communication Regulatory Authority (MACRA) has presented various prizes — including laptops, laptop bags, hardcovers, pens, and other items — to three students from different secondary schools for excelling in its annual letter-writing competition.

This year marked the 54th edition of the competition, held under the theme “If I Were an Ocean.” Three students emerged as winners:

Rheecious Isaac Luweya of Chichiri Secondary School took first place,

Allan Nkhoma of Likangala Secondary School came second, and

Favour Kalirani of Loyola Jesuit Secondary School finished third.

Speaking during the award ceremony at Likangala Secondary School in Zomba City, MACRA Acting Director General Mphatso Phiri said such competitions help students sharpen their English writing and research skills. She noted that Malawi’s winning letter has already been submitted to compete at the international level.

Phiri further urged students to start preparing early for next year’s contest by reading widely, emphasizing MACRA’s commitment to supporting government efforts in the education sector.

The Ministry of Education’s Director of Quality Assurance, Lindiwe Chide, commended MACRA for organizing the competition but encouraged the institution to start the contests at divisional level to broaden participation.

Overall winner Rheecious Isaac Luweya thanked God for the achievement, saying being number one among 80 competitors was no small feat. She added that she plans to use her prizes wisely as she works toward her dream of reaching university.

Chichiri, Likangala, and Loyola Secondary Schools also received institutional prizes — including a desktop computer and a printer — in recognition of their students’ strong performance.
