Deputy Commissioner Tiyese Chiumbudzo, one of Malawi Police Service’s seasoned detective experts in criminal investigations, has died, police authorities have confirmed.
Police spokesperson Lael Chimtembo said Chiumbudzo passed away on Sunday afternoon at Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe after an illness.
Chimtembo described the late officer as a dedicated law enforcer who served the Malawi Police Service with commitment and professionalism over many years.
According to the police spokesperson, burial arrangements have been finalized, with Chiumbudzo expected to be laid to rest on Tuesday, 23 December 2025.
The burial ceremony will take place at his home village of Chilobwe under Traditional Authority Sawali in Balaka District.
Investigations by The Truth reveal that the late Chiumbudzo previously served as head of the fingerprint and forensic investigations unit at Police Headquarters, a critical department in crime detection.
He also served as Officer-in-Charge for Kanengo Police Station before later being transferred to Ntchisi, where he held the same position.
Chiumbudzo began his policing career after completing his initial training at Mtakataka Police College Wing in 2001, marking the start of a long and distinguished service to the nation.
