The Deputy Minister responsible for national security, NORMAN CHISALE, has announced that President Peter Mutharika has donated five cattle and K5 million to staff at Maula Prison as part of a Christmas goodwill gesture.
According to Chisale, President Mutharika made the donation after learning about the visit by his son, Tadikira Mafubza Mutharika, who is today hosting a Christmas celebration with inmates at Maula Prison.
The donation is intended to appreciate the dedication and hard work of prison officers, particularly during the festive season, and to support morale among staff serving under challenging conditions.
However, Deputy Minister Chisale also stated that government authorities will travel to Chikangawa to further investigate circumstances surrounding the plane crash that killed the former Vice President, emphasizing government commitment to establishing the truth.
Chisale further revealed that from 2 January, Maula Prison will begin receiving high-profile visitors, and inmates will be involved in formally welcoming them as part of ongoing engagements at the facility.
During today’s event, Tadikira Mafubza Mutharika encouraged inmates through his visit, urging them to remain hopeful and spiritually strong despite their circumstances.
The Christmas celebration featured prayers, gospel music, and shared meals, creating an atmosphere of unity and reflection within the prison grounds.
Tadikira actively participated in the program by leading some of the gospel songs, reinforcing the message of compassion and solidarity.
Among the dignitaries present at the event was Deputy Minister Norman Chisale, highlighting the importance attached to the occasion.
