HIGH COURT TO DELIVER DECISION ON MCP SECRETARY GENERAL’S BAIL

The High Court has reaffirmed that it will, in due course, deliver a ruling on whether to grant bail to Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Secretary General Richard Chimwendo Banda.

Chimwendo Banda has been in detention for more than three weeks, facing an attempted murder charge.

Ruth Mputeni, spokesperson for the judiciary, said the court is merely following standard procedures before issuing any decision.

Judge Mzonde Mvula, who presided over the bail application, confirmed that the decision will be communicated via email to the parties involved.

The judge, however, did not indicate how long the process of delivering the ruling would take.

Chimwendo Banda’s legal team has been awaiting the court’s decision, emphasizing the importance of due process in the matter.

The case has drawn significant public attention, given Chimwendo Banda’s prominent political position in Malawi.

The High Court remains committed to ensuring a fair and transparent process before making a final determination on the bail application.
