BRITISH HIGH COMMISSIONER REAFFIRMS UK SUPPORT TO MALAWI

Commissioner to Malawi, Leigh Stubblefield, paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Finance, Joseph Mwanamvekha, at Capital Hill in Lilongwe.

During the meeting, the High Commissioner reaffirmed the United Kingdom’s continued commitment to supporting Malawi’s development agenda.

Stubblefield assured the Malawian Government of sustained UK cooperation, emphasizing the long-standing partnership between the two countries.

In response, Minister Mwanamvekha expressed gratitude to the UK Government for its support in key sectors, including humanitarian food assistance, health, and education.

He also acknowledged the technical assistance provided by the UK, particularly in efforts aimed at debt restructuring and fiscal sustainability.

The High Commissioner commended Malawi for implementing austerity measures designed to restore macroeconomic stability.

She encouraged the government to remain steadfast on this reform path in order to strengthen confidence among cooperating partners.

Stubblefield further noted that the UK remains committed to supporting Malawi through investments in mining, energy, health, education, climate financing, and capacity enhancement programmes under the fiscal decentralisation agenda.
