GOVERNMENT URGES MALAWIANS TO PARTICIPATE IN DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES

The Department of Civic Education in the Ministry of Local Government says that when people are aware of their rights and take part in development issues, it helps ensure that Malawi Vision 2063 becomes successful.

Chief Civic Education Officer in the Department of Civic Education, Kondwani Hilary Chitosi, made these remarks in Zomba District during an event to establish I Chikowi Area Civic Education Hub committee that will be educating people on human rights and development issues.

Chitosi said the Civic Education Hub is very important at the Traditional Authority (T/A) level because it ensures that people participate in human rights and development matters, and it also helps resolve community problems.

He added that Malawi Vision 2063 requires every citizen to take part in development activities.

He advised the newly selected committee to work with everyone in order to make Malawi a country that benefits all its citizens.

“Malawi Vision 2063 wants the country to be inclusive and beneficial to everyone by the year 2063. For this to happen, everyone must participate in development activities.” He said.

Speaking on behalf of the Zomba District Council, Assistant Superintendent Naison Chibondo said the establishment of the Chikowi Area Civic Education Hub will help spread messages about human rights.

He added that the Council is ready to work hand in hand with the committee.

The newly elected Chairperson of the Chikowi Area Civic Education Hub, Thoko Six, said she is ready to work with everyone fairly and without favoritism.
