MUTHARIKA SAYS HE IS FOLLOWING AMARYLLIS HOTEL SALE INVESTIGATION CLOSELY

President Arthur Peter Mutharika has said he is closely monitoring the ongoing investigation being conducted by Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee regarding the purchase of the Amaryllis Hotel.

The hotel was reportedly bought at a cost of K128 billion, a figure that has shocked many people in the country. Property valuation experts say the actual market value of the hotel does not exceed K50 billion, raising serious questions about the transaction.

Speaking through a statement, Professor Mutharika said his government is committed to transparency and the rule of law. He added that this is the reason his administration has allowed the parliamentary committee to continue its inquiry openly.

The President emphasized that his government believes in accountability and ensuring that public institutions operate in a transparent manner that benefits Malawians.

He further stated that the administration remains determined to fight corruption and will not shield anyone found to have been involved in any wrongdoing related to the deal.

According to the statement, authorities will ensure that all individuals connected to the controversial purchase are investigated thoroughly.
Meanwhile, findings presented during the parliamentary inquiry suggest that only three members out of ten on the board of the Public Service Pension Trust Fund were aware of the full details surrounding the arrangement to buy the Amaryllis Hotel.

The development has intensified calls for greater scrutiny of how public funds are being used, as the parliamentary committee continues its investigation into the controversial deal.
