LAND DISPUTE BETWEEN COUNCIL AND RESIDENTS RESOLVED

A long-standing land dispute between the council and local residents has been resolved following the intervention of the Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Chimwemwe Chipungu, who is also Member of Parliament for Luncheza Constituency.

Chipungu on Monday visited Namtipwili Estate in Traditional Authority Vumbwe in Thyolo District, where he held discussions with community members and council representatives to address the issue.

During the meeting, the minister facilitated an agreement that saw the disputed land being shared between the city council and residents from the surrounding communities.

The resolution has brought relief and renewed hope to the affected residents, who had been seeking a lasting solution to the dispute.

Speaking during the meeting, Chipungu emphasized the importance of peaceful dialogue and proper land management to prevent future conflicts.

He assured the community that government remains committed to ensuring that land matters are handled transparently and in a way that benefits both the public and local authorities.

Among those present at the meeting was Muhammad Selemani, a representative of the Lands Commissioner from Thyolo District Council, alongside other council officials and community leaders.

The development marks an important step toward restoring harmony between the council and residents while promoting orderly land administration in the district.
