ROAD CONDITIONS BLAMED ON PAST MAINTENANCE FAILURES

Minister of Transport and Public Works Jappie Mhango has attributed the poor condition of some roads in the country to what he described as failure by the previous Malawi Congress Party (MCP)-led government to properly maintain them.

Mhango made the remarks in Parliament while responding to questions from Members of Parliament during question time directed to his ministry regarding the state of roads across the country.

He said the lack of routine maintenance in past years has contributed to the deterioration of several roads, making them costly to rehabilitate.

However, the minister assured Malawians that the current Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) government has set aside funds aimed at improving road infrastructure and ensuring that roads are kept in good condition.
Mhango added that his ministry is committed to implementing maintenance works to improve transport networks and support economic activities.
