The Ministry of Health has received 16 4×4 Land Cruiser vehicles donated by the Government of Germany through KfW Bank, aimed at strengthening health service delivery in hard-to-reach areas across 10 districts in Malawi.
Principal Secretary responsible for Administration, Beston Chisamile, said the vehicles will play a crucial role in ensuring health services reach the last mile, particularly in remote communities.
He made the remarks today during the official handover ceremony, emphasizing that the support will enhance the implementation of key health programmes on the ground.
Meanwhile, the German Ambassador to Malawi, Ute König, said the donation is aimed at improving access to quality health services, especially for adolescents.
She highlighted that the initiative will help address challenges such as the high rate of teenage pregnancies, particularly among girls.
The vehicles are part of the N’zatonse Programme, a Ministry of Health initiative funded by German Development Cooperation through KfW and implemented by a consortium of partners led by Population Services International (PSI).
They will be distributed to district councils in Mzimba North and Mzimba South, Rumphi, Ntchisi, Lilongwe, Ntcheu, Neno, Nsanje, Thyolo, and Mangochi to strengthen service delivery, especially in hard-to-reach areas.
