GOVERNMENT REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO SECURITY PERSONNEL WELFARE

Government has reaffirmed its commitment to improving the welfare of security personnel following the partial handover of six newly constructed houses at Mitundu Police Unit in Lilongwe.

Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development Chimwemwe Chipungu and Minister of Homeland Security Peter Mukhito jointly presided over the event.

Speaking during the ceremony, Mukhito said the initiative marks a significant step in restoring dignity among security officers, noting that many have endured poor living conditions for years.

He added that the new houses are expected to boost morale and enhance service delivery within the police service.

Chipungu described the development as part of a broader national programme aimed at providing decent housing for men and women in uniform.

He assured the nation that government remains committed to completing all remaining units across the country, emphasizing that the project is critical to improving welfare, morale and working conditions.

The housing programme, which initially targeted 10,000 units, has since been scaled up to 12,500 houses. It also includes hostel facilities for the Malawi Defence Force.

Government has pledged to continue investing in the welfare of security personnel as part of efforts to strengthen service delivery nationwide.
