MALAWI FIRST LADY PRAISES CHINA-MALAWI RELATIONS DURING BEAM DONATION HANDOVER

Her Excellency Prof. Gertrude Mutharika, First Lady of the Republic of Malawi, has commended the People’s Republic of China for its strong and cordial diplomatic relations with Malawi.

Speaking at Kamuzu Palace during the handover of a K40 million donation to the Beautify Malawi Trust (BEAM), the First Lady expressed appreciation for the partnership, describing it as rooted in mutual respect and a shared vision for national development.

Chinese Ambassador to Malawi Lu Xu reaffirmed China’s commitment to the relationship, stating that the donation will support BEAM’s sanitation and waste management initiatives.

She also announced that China will offer scholarships to schools excelling in sanitation and hygiene, alongside short-term capacity-building programs.

According to Xu, these initiatives align with BEAM’s 2026–2030 strategy aimed at elevating health and environmental standards in Malawi.
