DOWA POLICE IMPOUND 41 MOTORCYCLES IN ROAD SAFETY CRACKDOWN

The Dowa Police Station has impounded 41 motorcycles following a major road safety enforcement exercise targeting traffic violations among kabaza riders in the district.

The operation, conducted by the Traffic Branch, focused on riders who have been flouting road rules and endangering both passengers and other road users.

Authorities say the crackdown was necessary to reduce accidents that have become common on Dowa’s busy roads.

Leading the exercise was Station Traffic Officer (STO), Assistant Superintendent Mathambeka Golozera, who directed his team to be thorough but professional during the checks.

Golozera said the aim was not to punish riders, but to instill discipline and ensure compliance with traffic laws.

According to police, the seized motorcycles were found to be operating with multiple offenses. These included riding unregistered motorcycles, driving without valid licenses, operating without insurance cover, and over-speeding. Some riders were also caught without helmets and reflector jackets.

Assistant Superintendent Golozera urged all motorcyclists to take the enforcement seriously.

“We want our roads to be safe for everyone. Kabaza riders play an important role in transport, but they must also respect the law,” he said during the operation.

Police in the district are now reminding all motorists, motorcycle riders, and other road users to comply with traffic regulations and prioritize safety at all times. Officers emphasized that the exercise will be continuous and not a one-time event.

Police noted that some motorists have started responding by registering their motorcycles and acquiring proper documents. Officials say this is an encouraging step toward improving road safety in Dowa.

The impounded motorcycles will remain in police custody until the owners meet all legal requirements. Dowa Police has called on riders to visit the Traffic Branch to regularize their documents and avoid future arrests.
