MULANJE STEPS UP EFFORTS TO IMPROVE PRIMARY EDUCATION

Mulanje District Council has introduced a number of measures aimed at improving the quality of primary education following a decline in examination pass rates.

The district recorded a drop in the pass rate from 87 percent last year to 81.3 percent this year.

Speaking during a meeting held at Mulanje Mission, Mulanje District Council Director of Education and Sports, Enoch Chumachawo, said the meeting provided an opportunity to assess the district’s performance and develop strategies to improve the 2027 examination results.

Chumachawo acknowledged that the district performed below last year’s level, saying education authorities would identify areas of weakness and develop appropriate measures to address the challenges.

He said the meeting also emphasized the importance of conducting mock examinations and continuous assessments, while strengthening collaboration with various organisations to ensure that schools have adequate teaching and learning materials.

According to Chumachawo, the interventions are essential in helping learners better understand their lessons and improve their academic performance.

Meanwhile, Ulongwe Zone education official Maggie Mwakabanga has urged teachers to maintain positive relationships with learners in order to create a conducive environment for learning.

Mwakabanga also called on education officials and school authorities to strengthen the supervision and monitoring of teachers’ work, while closely tracking learners’ academic progress.

She said collaboration among teachers, school leaders, education officials and other stakeholders is essential to improving the quality of education and achieving better examination results in the coming years.
