Police in Machinga have arrested a 22-year-old woman for allegedly having sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old boy at Ntaja Trading Centre in the district.
The suspect, identified as Rebecca Dyton, a sex worker from Mdeza Village under Traditional Authority Liwonde, was arrested on October 13, 2026, following a report made to Ntaja Police Post.
According to Machinga Police Station Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Western Kansire, the incident allegedly occurred during the night of October 12–13, when the suspect took the boy, who is a street child, to her rented house.
Kansire said the matter came to light after another street child who reportedly witnessed the incident disclosed it to a social worker from the O.M. Mulumikizi Project, who subsequently reported the matter to police.
He said the suspect was arrested and allegedly admitted to having sexual intercourse with the boy.
The suspect is expected to appear in court soon to answer a charge of having sexual intercourse with a male child under the age of 18, contrary to Section 138(2) of the Penal Code.
