CHAKWERA COURTS CHINESE INVESTORS FOR CLEAN ENERGY SOLUTIONS IN MALAWI

As part of his working visit to China, President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has attracted interest from Chinese investors in Malawi’s power sector, particularly in clean energy solutions. During his final engagement, Chakwera met with a delegation from the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organisation (GEIDCO), which has expressed eagerness to help Malawi develop its energy sector using sustainable power sources.

President Chakwera emphasized the need for alternative energy solutions, urging GEIDCO to explore Malawi’s untapped potential in solar, wind, and geothermal energy.

“Malawi has vast opportunities in clean energy, and I encourage you to consider partnerships that will help us harness these resources,” Chakwera said during the meeting.

The president acknowledged that a reliable energy supply is the cornerstone of transforming Malawi’s economy, stating that sectors such as mining, manufacturing, and domestic consumption depend on adequate power.

By securing partnerships in clean energy, Chakwera believes Malawi will be well-positioned to meet its growing energy demands and drive sustainable economic growth.

President Chakwera leaves China with renewed optimism following the successful agreements he signed, the ongoing negotiations he advanced, and the strengthened partnerships with Chinese entities.

The working visit has set the stage for future cooperation that could unlock significant investment in Malawi’s energy infrastructure, contributing to the country’s long-term development goals.
