Zomba District Council commemorated International Youth Day under the theme “From Click to Progress: Youth Digital Pathway to Sustainable Development” at Nsondole Primary School, Traditional Authority Kumtumanji.
Guest of honor, Zomba District Council Chairperson Councillor Blazio Chinthenga, urged the youth to embrace digital technology to stay relevant in the modern world. He also encouraged young people to avoid alcohol and other harmful behaviors that could jeopardize their future and well-being.
Chinthenga emphasized the importance of mindset change, urging the youth to consider technical and vocational skills as a viable way to earn a living and contribute to Malawi’s socio-economic development.
“Zomba District Council is committed to empowering the youth. We encourage Members of Parliament to allocate part of the Constituency Development Fund to youth skills development,” he added.
District Youth Officer Sophie Mzunga highlighted the council’s efforts, in partnership with other organizations, to promote digital literacy through technical and vocational training in line with Malawi Vision 2063.
District Youth Network Chairperson, Sanudi Mussa, stressed that access to digital technology is crucial for Malawi’s sustainable development, given that young people are the leaders of tomorrow. He also urged his peers to avoid alcohol and drug abuse, which can undermine their future.
