PRESIDENT CHAKWERA ADVOCATES FOR DIALOGUE AND DEVELOPMENT IN KASUNGU

President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has emphasized the importance of contact and dialogue as vital principles for maintaining peace and fostering development in Malawi. Speaking on Monday at Chamama Trading Centre in Senior Chief Wimbe’s area in Kasungu District, the President underscored the nation’s identity as a peaceful country and called for unity through discussion to resolve misunderstandings.

“We are known for being peaceful. We have no time for violence, and we must all love peace,” President Chakwera said, stressing that sustainable development can only thrive in a peaceful environment.

The President also highlighted the need for improved infrastructure in Chamama, a key agricultural hub in Kasungu that supplies the district with a variety of produce. “Good roads are essential for places like Chamama to unlock their full economic potential,” he noted.

Amid current challenges posed by adverse weather conditions, President Chakwera urged citizens to remain hopeful. “We must not lose hope. Despite facing challenges from climatic disasters, we must believe that we will overcome these problems someday,” he said.

The President further encouraged eligible voters to participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise, underscoring the importance of civic engagement in shaping the nation’s future.

In her remarks, Member of Parliament for Kasungu North East, Madalitso Kambauwa Wirima, lauded the government for increasing the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) from K30 million in 2020 to K200 million by 2025.

“Because of the increase in CDF, we have managed to undertake various development initiatives, including building houses for teachers and health workers. We’ve also constructed bridges, police units, and chiefs’ houses using funds like the District Development Fund and Governance to Enable Service Delivery,” Wirima said.

Senior Chief Wimbe also appealed to the government to upgrade local roads to bitumen standards, highlighting the economic importance of Chamama to the district and the nation at large.

The event showcased the government’s ongoing commitment to fostering development and promoting peace in the region, reinforcing Malawi’s reputation as a beacon of harmony in the region.
