COUNCILOR KAMSIKILI URGES MORE BENEFICIARIES, INCREASED FUNDS FOR LOCAL PROJECTS

Councilor Sekelani Kamsikili of Kapote Ward, T/A Chingala, has urged the National Local Government Finance Committee (NLGFC) Board of Directors to increase the number of beneficiaries for local development projects.

Speaking during the NLGFC board’s tour of projects in Kapote Ward, Mitundu, Lilongwe, Kamsikili emphasized that the current support is insufficient for the large population in T/A Chingala.

The tour was organized by the Lilongwe District Council to showcase projects under the Climate Change Smart initiative, public works, and social cash transfer programs.

Kamsikili, representing area legislator Binton Kusaila, highlighted the impact of currency devaluation on community livelihoods.

“My people are hardworking. We need more beneficiaries included in these projects and an adjustment to the financial support given the devaluation of the Kwacha,” he said.

Currently, 1,605 people benefit from the programs, a figure Kamsikili considers inadequate for the area’s needs. T/A Chingala, located in Dzalanyama, faces additional environmental challenges as residents turn to charcoal production for income.
