The National Youth Council of Malawi (NYCOM) has officially set the stage for an ambitious new financial year, beginning with an inspiring address from Executive Director Rex Chapota under the theme Posturing for Greatness
In his remarks, Chapota underscored NYCOM’s unwavering commitment to elevating youth development as a national priority.
“Together, we are building a great organization that will lead Malawi into a new era, one where youth issues are not just important they are crucial to the very future of our nation,” he stated
As NYCOM embarks on this transformative journey, Chapota expressed confidence in the organization’s path forward.
“I am filled with immense pride and optimism for the road ahead,” he said, emphasizing the council’s role in shaping a brighter future for young people across the country
Key initiatives lined up for the coming months include the highly anticipated return of the National Youth Conversations, which will take on a bolder and more in-depth approach, tackling complex and pressing issues affecting young people.
Additionally, preparations are in full swing for the National Youth Summit 2025, which promises greater participation and wider engagement, ensuring that youth voices are amplified at all levels of decision-making
NYCOM is also set to begin the process of disbursing the Youth Innovation Funds within the next three months, a critical step in supporting young entrepreneurs and innovators
The Executive Director also highlighted NYCOM’s strategic alignment with Malawi Vision 2063, particularly its mindset pillar, which prioritizes a youth-driven future.
“By aligning with the mindset pillar of Malawi Vision 2063, we are positioning youth development at the heart of Malawi’s future, showing that when youth are empowered, the country thrives. Together, we are changing the narrative, opening doors to new possibilities, and setting the stage for the next generation of leaders to shape the future”
In his closing remarks, Chapota acknowledged and expressed his appreciation for the strong political will that continues to create an enabling environment for youth development in Malawi, spearheaded by His Excellency Dr Lazarus Chakwera With a renewed sense of purpose and a clear roadmap ahead, NYCOM is poised to make 2025 a transformative year for youth development in Malawi.
