President Lazarus Chakwera has called on the Malawian Christian community to remain steadfast in observing the Way of the Cross, especially as the country prepares for the 2025 elections. He emphasized that the season serves as a powerful reminder of the need for peace and unity nationwide.
Speaking during this year’s Way of the Cross celebrations at the Botanic Garden in Lilongwe, President Chakwera urged Malawians to stay vigilant and spiritually grounded, reminding them that God’s grace is sufficient and accessible to all. He also encouraged turning away from earthly and sinful desires.

The President commended the organizers of the 2025 Way of the Cross celebrations, praising the initiative for its role in promoting oneness both within Malawi and across borders.
Rev. Langford Chokhotho, Chairperson of the Way of the Cross Organising Committee, described this year’s event as a testament to Christian unity. He referred to the celebration as a “prayer war” focused on spiritual renewal and national peace.
Rev. Chokhotho also acknowledged the collaboration with the Evangelical Association of Malawi and African Enterprise in making the event possible.
