The Ministry of Health, through the National TB and Leprosy Elimination Program (NTLEP), has reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating tuberculosis (TB) and leprosy in Malawi.
This was highlighted during a Bi-Annual Media and Faith-Based Organization workshop held at River Mark Lodge in Salima.
Stakeholders across the country are intensifying efforts, with the media playing a vital role in raising awareness and strengthening collaboration in the fight against TB and leprosy.
Dickens Chimatiro, a representative of NTLEP, noted that men aged between 34 and 64 are the most affected group. However, the program aims to reduce TB incidence from 97 cases per 100,000 people to below 100 by the end of 2025.
Chimatiro emphasized the importance of mobile clinics and house-to-house diagnosis in detecting and treating cases early. He also highlighted the contribution of the Community Spectrum Unit in reducing the burden of both diseases.
NTLEP has set an ambitious goal to eliminate TB in Malawi by 2030.
