CCJP URGES ZOMBA RESIDENTS TO VOTE IN SEPTEMBER ELECTIONS

The Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) under the Catholic Diocese of Zomba has urged residents of Zomba to take part in the upcoming tripartite elections set for September 16, 2025.

The call was made during a civic education campaign at Songani Trading Centre in Senior Chief Malemia’s area, where CCJP encouraged communities to exercise their right to vote.

Rhoda Ng’ambi, Assistant Project Officer for CCJP in the Zomba Diocese, highlighted the significance of voting, stressing that every eligible citizen has a role to play in shaping the country’s future.

“The future of Malawi is in our hands. We need to choose wisely by electing leaders who are committed, honest, and capable of developing the country,” she said.

The campaign is part of the Malawi Electoral Support project, supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), aimed at promoting voter participation.

Ng’ambi reminded the audience that voting is a fundamental human right and urged all registered voters to participate in the elections freely and without fear.

Also speaking at the event, Sub Inspector Getrude Namaona of Zomba Police Station warned against political violence, cautioning the public against being used by politicians to disrupt rallies or attack opponents.

“Political violence can result in injuries, deaths, and arrests,” she said, calling on leaders to refrain from using young people to cause chaos.

The awareness campaign was welcomed by local residents, including Ganizani Chimenya from Mpohowa Village, who applauded CCJP for the initiative and encouraged fellow villagers to vote for leaders of their choice.
