President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has conferred the title of Senior Counsel (SC) on 12 distinguished legal practitioners during a ceremony held Thursday at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.
In his address, President Chakwera highlighted that the appointments were grounded in three key principles: loyalty, integrity, and ability. He noted that the honorees exemplify unwavering devotion to the nation, adherence to the law, and a strong sense of professional duty.
“The fuel that is going to drive our development forward is a decision by every Malawian in every profession to be devoted to the country, to follow its laws, and to discharge the duties of the profession with a sense of duty to both,” Chakwera said.

Malawi Law Society (MLS) Chairperson Davis Njobvu praised the appointments, describing them as a source of inspiration for other legal professionals to strive for excellence.
Those honored include Minister of Justice Titus Mvalo, Attorney General Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda, Marshal Chilenga, Pempho Likongwe, Emily Makuta, Kamudoni Nyasulu, Maziko Phiri, Innocentia Ottober, Ralphel Joseph Mhone, and James Masumbu.
Additionally, Garton Kainja and Alex Nampota were recognized posthumously, with family members receiving the certificates on their behalf.
Speaking on behalf of the appointees, Kamudoni Nyasulu expressed gratitude for the recognition, emphasizing that his selection was based on merit, dedication, and service rather than ambition.
