President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera on Monday signed the second edition of the Women’s Manifesto presented by the Women Manifesto Movement during a ceremony at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.
In his remarks, President Chakwera reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive governance, emphasizing the importance of valuing every voice and contribution in national development.
“I can only do better with what I started in 2019 — without going in reverse,” said Chakwera.
Maggie Kathewera Banda, Executive Director of WOLREC, highlighted that the updated manifesto outlines 15 thematic areas that women expect the President to act on. These include gender equality, increased women’s political participation, social protections for the elderly, and special support for women with disabilities.
Minister of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare, Jean Sendeza, applauded the President for prioritizing women in his 2025 manifesto and for appointing women to key positions in his current administration.
