GVH MAKUNGULA THRIVES THROUGH FARMING

Group Village Headman (GVH) Makungula of Traditional Authority (T/A) Nkagula in Zomba District says he is reaping great benefits from farming, including poultry, dairy, and vegetable production.

He explained that since he began rearing broiler and layer chickens, keeping dairy cows, and cultivating vegetables, he has not lacked food or money. The income has enabled him to pay school fees for his children and meet other household needs.

According to GVH Makungula, he earns about K300,000 daily from selling milk, eggs, and chickens. Additional income comes from vegetable farming, including leafy greens, onions, maize, and tomatoes.

The village headman also praised his wife, Gloria Walawala Mtawira, for working alongside him in caring for livestock and tending the garden.

“I thank my wife for the great work she does in helping me take care of the chickens, cows, and vegetables,” he said.

A villager, Mrs. Memory Mtukwanika, said her household also benefits as they no longer travel long distances to buy relish. She noted that buying chickens, eggs, and vegetables such as leafy greens, tomatoes, onions, and beans from the village headman has improved her family’s nutrition.

GVH Makungula serves as a good example to others in the area, demonstrating that farming can improve living standards and help eradicate hunger at the household level.
