The Commissioner of Police for the Eastern Region, Chikondi Cham’bwinja Chingadza, has called on journalists in Zomba District to work closely with the police, particularly during this election period.
Speaking at the Eastern Region Police Headquarters during a meeting with local journalists, Commissioner Cham’bwinja Chingadza said the engagement was aimed at strengthening ties between the police and the media while also introducing her and Deputy Commissioner Francis Chisoti to the district’s media practitioners.
She stressed that the police rely heavily on journalists to disseminate accurate information to the public and highlighted the importance of collaboration to ensure peaceful and orderly elections.
“I enjoy working with journalists because we, as police officers, cannot do our job without them,” she said. “During this election period, we urge you to work with us so that we maintain peace and order in the Eastern Region.”
Commissioner Cham’bwinja Chingadza further encouraged journalists to consult the police before publishing sensitive stories to prevent public alarm or confusion.
In his response, Zomba District head of media, Solistor Mogha, thanked the Commissioner for initiating the meeting and expressed optimism that the partnership between the police and journalists would grow stronger. He also urged fellow reporters to engage with the police whenever handling potentially controversial stories.
