The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), in collaboration with the African Union (AU), has organized an interface meeting with key stakeholders in Malawi as part of pre-election preparations ahead of the September 16, 2025, General Elections.
The meeting, taking place at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe from Wednesday to Saturday, seeks to promote dialogue and develop solutions to prevent conflicts and ensure peaceful elections.
Commissioner Bishop Mary Nkosi, Chairperson of the Peace and Unity Commission, emphasized that the initiative is aimed at addressing issues that could undermine the credibility of the polls. She stressed the importance of preventive measures against violence while encouraging peace and unity among communities.
Bishop Nkosi further noted that, although no incidents of physical violence have been recorded since the official launch of the campaign period, the use of derogatory language and insults among political players remains a concern, as it has the potential to trigger tensions.
The four-day meeting has attracted District Commissioners, traditional leaders, and officials from various political parties, reflecting a collective effort to ensure credible, peaceful, and inclusive elections.
