MUTHARIKA URGES BLANTYRE RESIDENTS TO VOTE IN LARGE NUMBERS

Former President Peter Mutharika has urged residents of Blantyre District to turn out in large numbers and vote in the September 16 elections. He made the call during a campaign rally held on Saturday afternoon.

Addressing enthusiastic crowds in Namcholi, Chilobwe, Zingwangwa, and Soche, Mutharika emphasized that voting is the key to bringing change in the country. He encouraged people not to remain at home, but to wake up early on polling day and ensure they cast their votes.

“This election is very important. If you want things to improve, you must go and vote. Do not leave it to others — every vote counts,” Mutharika said.

He further highlighted that challenges such as hunger, unemployment, and economic hardships could be addressed if the right leaders are elected into office. “You deserve better lives. A strong vote is the first step to achieving them,” he added.

The former president has been holding a series of campaign rallies in Blantyre under the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) banner, with more events planned in other townships ahead of Tuesday’s polls.

Residents warmly welcomed Mutharika’s message, responding with cheers and applause. Many expressed readiness to vote, with one traditional leader remarking: “We are tired of suffering. We need a government that listens.”

Closing his speech, Mutharika reminded Malawians that their vote is their voice. “You have the power to change Malawi. Let us do it together on Tuesday,” he said.

The presidential, parliamentary, and local government elections are set for Tuesday, with several political parties holding final rallies across the country in a last push to win support.
