President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) presidential candidate in the September 16 general elections, has officially wrapped up the party’s campaign with a rally at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.
Addressing thousands of jubilant supporters, Chakwera commended Malawians for maintaining peace throughout the campaign period and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving livelihoods and building a self-reliant nation.
“I am grateful to all Malawians who have demonstrated that democracy can thrive in peace. Together, we will continue building a nation that uplifts every citizen,” he said.
MCP Secretary General Richard Chimwendo Banda praised Chakwera as a “champion of development,” citing achievements such as the construction of modern roads, expanded access to clean water, and improved welfare for civil servants.

He also highlighted that Chakwera completed 21 whistle-stop tours across the country, which he described as powerful yet peaceful. Chimwendo further applauded Malawians for registering in large numbers ahead of the polls, saying it reflected their readiness to shape the country’s future.
The rally marked the official close of MCP’s campaign as the nation heads into Tuesday’s presidential, parliamentary, and local government elections.
