Minister of Transport and Public Works Dr. Feston Kaupa has commended Japanese government for the commitment towards improvement of road infrastructure projects in the country.
Dr. Kaupa said this yesterday in Lilongwe after meeting Ambassador of Japan to Malawi, His Excellency Yoichi Oya.
The Minister expressed his gratitude for the Ambassador’s courtesy visit, describing it as a sign of the strong partnership and continued cooperation between Malawi and Japan.
Their discussions focused on Japan’s ongoing support to Malawi’s transport sector and other areas of collaboration.
Dr. Kaupa also shared that the meeting covered plans for the expansion of the M1 Road section from Malangalanga to Nathenje, to a dual-carriage road, a project that the Government of Japan has committed to support.
He added that a team of Japanese engineers will soon visit Malawi to begin designing the proposed expansion works.
The project is part of the Government’s broader plan to decongest traffic and improve transport efficiency on key national roads.
