Newly sworn-in legislator for Lilongwe Mtandire–Mtsiriza, Alfred Gangata, has expressed gratitude to God following his victory in the September 16 by-election.
Gangata, who took the oath of office earlier today, said the win was a blessing and a responsibility he is ready to embrace on behalf of his constituents.
Speaking briefly after the ceremony, the new MP told journalists that he would provide a more detailed statement in the coming days.
He said his immediate focus is to settle into his parliamentary duties while consulting widely on the priorities of the people who elected him.

The atmosphere inside the National Assembly was celebratory as Gangata completed the swearing-in process.
Dozens of his supporters, who had filled the public gallery, broke into songs of praise the moment the ceremony concluded.
Their chants echoed through the chamber, marking a symbolic start to Gangata’s tenure as the area’s representative.
Observers at Parliament described the moment as one of enthusiasm and renewed energy for the constituency’s political future.
