The Public Appointments Committee (PAC) of Parliament has confirmed Counsel Fostino Maere as Malawi’s new Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) following his appearance before the committee earlier today.
During the confirmation hearing, Maere pledged to uphold the laws of the country and expedite the prosecution of pending cases—an issue that has raised public concern in recent months.
He assured legislators that he would work diligently to restore confidence in the criminal justice system.
PAC Chairperson Felix Njawala described Maere as highly competent, noting that all 17 members of the committee were satisfied with his qualifications and suitability for the role. “Counsel Maere has demonstrated that he is fit and prepared to take on the responsibilities of this office,” Njawala said.
With the committee’s approval secured at Parliament on 26 November 2025, Maere is now set to assume his duties as DPP.
Counsel Maere was appointed by President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika on 27 October 2025.
