OPINION:DR JANE ANSAH’S FIELD VISITS ARE PART OF HER OFFICIAL DISASTER MANAGEMENT DUTIES, NOT GOVERNMENT WASTE

Dr. Jane Ansah, the Vice President, continues to travel across various regions because she is the rightful authority responsible for overseeing disaster management—not because she intends to misuse government resources.

Malawians already know, and should not forget, that the previous administration wasted huge amounts of public funds on unnecessary foreign trips, often travelling with large delegations that included children.

Her presence in disaster-affected areas across the country is essential and beneficial. It allows her to verify reports, witness the real situation on the ground, and address challenges quickly.

Relying solely on written reports can be misleading, as some local officials exaggerate or fabricate information. Her visits help prevent corruption, including the theft or misallocation of relief items, because she sees firsthand who is receiving help and how aid is being distributed.

These visits also enable her to make timely decisions during crises such as hunger or severe storms. They reassure citizens that the government is working actively, not simply operating from office desks.

In addition, the visits strengthen coordination with DoDMA, local councils, and NGOs that are collaborating to deliver assistance to affected communities.

Her travels are being conducted in line with legal procedures, and their purpose is to protect and support disaster-affected citizens—not to squander taxpayers’ money. This is essential work during emergencies, not a waste of resources.

Those who once benefited from corruption are now unsettled, because this time Jane Ansah is handling matters directly and transparently.
