PHALOMBE DISTRICT COUNCIL URGES YOUTH IN ADCs TO UNDERSTAND THEIR ROLES

Phalombe District Council has appealed to young people elected into the newly reconstituted Area Development Committees (ADCs) to clearly understand their roles and responsibilities.

The council further encouraged the youths to avoid undermining themselves when executing their duties, emphasizing that their contribution is vital to local development.

Chairperson for Education, Youth, Sports, and Culture at Phalombe District Council, Councillor Simon Abraham, said knowledgeable and confident youth leaders are key to strengthening working relationships.

He explained that when young people understand their responsibilities, they are better positioned to collaborate effectively with other development structures within their communities.

Cllr. Abraham made the remarks today during an orientation session organized for youths elected to various committees across the district.

The orientation was conducted by the Phalombe Youth Arm Organization (PYAO) as part of efforts to build the capacity of young leaders.

Executive Director for PYAO, Vincent Thom, said the organization found it necessary to orient the youths on the principles of youth representation.

Thom noted that the training was aimed at empowering young people with the skills and confidence needed to execute their roles effectively.

Phalombe District Youth Officer, Halson Bulangeti, commended PYAO for organizing the training at a crucial time.

Bulangeti said the orientation would help youths contribute meaningfully to development planning and decision-making processes.

Meanwhile, Collivia Thyolani, a member of Nkhulambe ADC, described the orientation as an eye-opener.

She said the training enhanced her understanding of leadership, representation, and the importance of active youth participation in community development.
