BLANTYRE RESIDENTS PRAISE GOVERNMENT FOR FOOD SECURITY EFFORTS

Residents from the northern part of Blantyre City have continued to commend the DPP-led government and councillors from Chikwembere and Linjidzi wards for their commitment to developing their communities and addressing food insecurity.

The praise follows the dedication shown by Linjidzi Ward Councillor, Mai Akima Chipwatali, who on Tuesday conducted a commendable exercise at Katete Primary School under Traditional Authority Lundu in Blantyre.

The activity was carried out in collaboration with officials from Smallholder Farmers Fertilizer Revolving Fund of Malawi (SFFRFM), who registered and captured identification details of beneficiaries of this year’s Affordable Inputs Programme (AIP).

The registration exercise aims to ensure that beneficiaries will collect their subsidized fertilizer in the coming days without challenges.

Traditional leaders from the area, including Group Village Head Lunguzi and Senior Chief Lundu, expressed strong appreciation for Councillor Chipwatali’s intervention, saying it has eased the burden faced by many farmers.

They noted that in previous seasons, farmers frequently returned home empty-handed from Lundu Market fertilizer selling points due to interference by vendors and middlemen.

The development comes barely a week after chiefs from the area of Traditional Authority Chigalu similarly applauded Councillor Misasa for undertaking comparable initiatives in his ward.

One of the chiefs remarked that the DPP government has restored proper governance, citing good rainfall patterns this year, peaceful elections held on 16 September, and effective leadership at local level.

Meanwhile, beneficiaries who gathered at Katete Primary School said they were delighted to access fertilizer closer to home and without harassment from vendors, describing the process as smooth, fair, and encouraging.
