GOVERNMENT REOPENS INVESTIGATION INTO ALLAN WITIKA MURDER

Minister of Homeland Security Peter Mukhitho has announced that the government has reopened investigations into the murder of Allan Witika.

The late Witika, who worked for Coca-Cola, was found dead in his car in Area 15 in the city of Lilongwe in 2023.

Speaking in Parliament, Mukhitho said the government decided to reopen the case to ensure justice is served, noting that there are indications the matter was not properly handled at the beginning, partly due to political interference.

The minister made the remarks following a request from Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Chief Whip in Parliament, Moses Kunkuyu, who called for a special investigation into the death to ensure justice prevails, especially at a time when another inquiry has been instituted into the plane crash that killed former Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima and eight others.

In his remarks, Soche-Zingwangwa Member of Parliament Penjani Kalua criticized Kunkuyu for bringing the matter back to the House, citing rumors that allegedly link him to the death.

In July 2025, High Court judge Mzonde Mvula ruled that Lester Maganga had no case to answer in connection with the murder of Allan Witika.
