GOVERNMENT REOPENS ALLAN WITIKA MURDER CASE AMID PARLIAMENTARY DEBATE

The government has reopened the murder case of Allan Witika.

This follows an appeal made in Parliament by Dedza Mlunduni Member of Parliament Moses Kunkuyu, who asked the government to review several cases, including the killing of Witika.

In response, Blantyre Soche–Zingwangwa MP Fred Kalua raised a point of order, questioning whether it was appropriate for the issue to be presented in the House in what he described as an apolitical and casual manner by someone allegedly linked to the case.

Kalua further stated that there are circulating rumours connecting Kunkuyu to the matter.

Minister of Homeland Security Peter Mukhito informed Parliament that the government has decided to reopen the case, citing indications of political interference in its earlier handling.

Minister of Justice Charles Mhango also confirmed the development, while cautioning that the matter should not be debated within the House.

Previously, High Court judge Mzonde Mvula ruled that Lester Maganga, who was a suspect in the case, had no case to answer.

Allan Witika, a sales and marketing manager for Coca-Cola Beverages Africa in Malawi, was found murdered in his car on September 20, 2023, in Area 15, Lilongwe.
