MCP DEMANDS PRESIDENT MUTHARIKA TO ADDRESS THE NATION WITHIN THREE DAYS

The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has called on President Peter Mutharika to address the nation within three days over a range of challenges currently affecting the country.

Speaking during a press briefing held at the party’s headquarters in Lilongwe on Wednesday, MCP Publicity Secretary Jessie Kabwila said the President has remained silent at a critical time when Malawians are grappling with serious economic and social difficulties.

Kabwila highlighted that tobacco farmers, among other citizens, are facing significant hardships, adding that the government’s lack of response has raised concerns.

She further accused the administration of failing to adequately address key economic issues, including fuel shortages, scarcity of foreign exchange, and the rising cost of living.

According to Kabwila, these challenges require urgent intervention and clear communication from the Head of State.

Meanwhile, the MCP used the briefing to outline its concerns on several pressing national economic matters. These included farmgate prices, foreign exchange shortages, the ongoing tobacco market season, and fuel supply disruptions.

Also speaking at the briefing, MCP representative Moses Kunkuyu emphasized that the party is deeply concerned about the impact of current economic pressures on ordinary Malawians as well as key sectors of the economy.
On the issue of farmgate prices, Kunkuyu stressed the need for government to ensure that minimum prices for agricultural produce are both fair and reflective of prevailing market conditions.

“We need to make sure that farmers are not exploited. The prices must be realistic and enforced so that farmers benefit from their produce,” he said.

The MCP maintains that without decisive leadership and timely action, the country risks further economic strain, urging authorities to act swiftly in addressing the concerns raised.
