PRESIDENT CHAKWERA TO MONITOR ZOMBA STADIUM PROGRESS

The Zomba City Sports Lovers Committee has expressed its excitement over the news that President Lazarus Chakwera has taken a special interest in the progress of the long-awaited Zomba Stadium project.

In an interview, Lajab Namalaka, the chairperson of the committee, shared the collective relief and optimism following the announcement of the president’s impending visit. The stadium project, which has been in the works for eight years, has faced numerous delays and setbacks.

“Ministers have been visiting the construction site, but progress has not been impressive. We are happy to hear that the president will be here in person to monitor the situation,” Namalaka said, looking forward to Chakwera’s visit scheduled for this Friday.

The Zomba Stadium, once completed, is set to be a significant addition to the city’s infrastructure, boasting a capacity of 20,000 seats. According to Eng. Mayamiko Kabango, the city’s chief engineer, 75 percent of phases one and two of the construction have been completed. This includes the main structure and essential facilities.

The president’s visit is seen as a crucial step toward accelerating the completion of the stadium. Local sports enthusiasts hope that Chakwera’s involvement will bring the necessary attention and resources to expedite the final phases of construction.

For the Zomba City Sports Lovers Committee, the completion of the stadium represents more than just a venue for sports events. It symbolizes a long-awaited dream for the community and a catalyst for local economic and social development. The committee remains hopeful that the president’s visit will mark a turning point in the project’s timeline, paving the way for the stadium to become a bustling hub for sports and entertainment in Zomba.

As anticipation builds for Chakwera’s visit, the community’s optimism is palpable, reflecting the broader hope that the Zomba Stadium will soon become a reality for the city’s residents and sports fans.
