President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has declared that the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP) will secure victory in the upcoming 2025 General Elections. Speaking at the conclusion of the MCP 2024 Elective Convention held at Bingu International Convention Center (BICC) in Lilongwe, Chakwera dismissed any doubts about the party’s chances, asserting that no one should mislead Malawians about MCP’s strength.
The convention, which took place from August 8 to 10, 2024, allowed delegates to elect new leaders who will shape the party’s policy over the next five years. In his address, Chakwera urged the newly elected National Executive Committee (NEC) to focus on strengthening the party at the grassroots level.
The President also expressed gratitude to the delegates for their financial contributions to the convention, emphasizing the importance of using taxpayer money for critical national issues rather than party activities.
Newly elected MCP General Secretary Richard Chimwendo Banda echoed Chakwera’s sentiments, calling on all party members, including those who lost in the elections, to unite and work together to rebuild the party.
