Politicians in the country have been urged to stop using the death of former Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima and eight others who died in a plane crash in June this year for evil activities.
One seasoned politician, Ken Nsonda, said some individuals have taken advantage of candlelight memorial services happening in the country to honor departed souls as tools for engaging in demonic activities.
“Some people have taken advantage of candlelight memorial services as meeting places for sexual activities, drunkenness, and talk shows,” said Nsonda.
He said instead of respecting the souls of departed Malawians, participants are engaging in evil activities.
“Instead of acknowledging how painful and sorrowful the situation is, they don’t even care and use the time to do evil things,” he added.
In a voice note circulating on social media, Nsonda said he decided to condemn and call for politicians to stop this practice following a social media statement claimed to be from the late Vice President Dr Saulos Chilima’s family.
The alleged statement indicates that the family is disturbed by the blatant exploitation of the death of the late Vice President by some politicians for their own political gains.
Nsonda said memorial services are not intended to respect the souls of fallen heroes of Malawi but are instead being conducted with a hidden agenda.
“I agree with the Chilima family that what is happening is under satanic influence and not in honor of our beloved souls,” he added.
He condemned and urged all politicians involved to stop in order to give Chilima a break to mourn in peace and a dignified manner.
Apart from members of the United Transformation Movement, some Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and United Democratic Front (UDF) officials also joined candlelight memorial services in Blantyre over the weekend.
Nsonda also said that some inhumane individuals have taken advantage of the memorial services as a campaign event.
