CHAKWERA URGES INVESTMENT IN RESEARCH TO COMBAT IGNORANCE, UNVEILS NEW CREATOR FACILITY

President Lazarus Chakwera emphasized the critical need for increased investment in research and robust institutions to safeguard the nation from the high costs of ignorance. He made these remarks while addressing the public during the official opening of the Clinical Research Excellence and Training Open Source (CREATOR) under the Malawi Liverpool Wellcome Trust Research Programme in Blantyre.

President Chakwera pointed to recent reports highlighting Malawi’s high incidence of substandard drugs as a stark reminder of the consequences of inadequate research infrastructure.

“An ignorant nation pays a price,” he stated, underscoring the urgency of fostering a knowledge-based society to prevent such detrimental outcomes.

The newly inaugurated CREATOR facility stands as a beacon of progress towards this goal. The five-story building boasts a digital library, a health research innovation hub, and a state-of-the-art laboratory. President Chakwera lauded the facility, emphasizing its potential to provide essential knowledge and spearhead advancements in health research.

“This institution is a vital step towards equipping our nation with the tools and knowledge necessary to combat health challenges and improve the quality of life for all Malawians,” Chakwera said.

He expressed confidence that the CREATOR facility would play a crucial role in addressing the country’s pressing health issues through cutting-edge research and innovation.

The Malawi Liverpool Wellcome Trust Research Programme, through initiatives like CREATOR, aims to enhance the nation’s capacity for health research and innovation, ultimately contributing to the global fight against health disparities.

As the nation looks to the future, President Chakwera’s call to action resonates with the hope that Malawi can overcome its challenges through dedicated investment in knowledge and research.
