President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has concluded his official visit to Berlin with a high-level bilateral meeting with the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, at the latter’s official residence. The discussions between the two leaders focused on the enduring and evolving ties between Malawi and Germany, which have been strong since Malawi gained political independence in 1964.
During the meeting, President Chakwera and President Steinmeier reiterated their commitment to sustaining and strengthening the bilateral relations between their two nations. This comes at a pivotal time for Malawi, which has recently refreshed its development agenda with the adoption of the Malawi2063 Vision, a strategic blueprint aimed at transforming the country into an inclusively wealthy and self-reliant nation by 2063.
The leaders emphasized the importance of cooperation in realizing Malawi’s ambitious goals, particularly through sustainable investments in key sectors. President Chakwera’s vision, which includes the ATM Strategy focusing on Agriculture, Tourism, and Mining received significant support during his stay in Berlin. This strategy is seen as critical to driving Malawi’s economic growth and development in the coming decades.
President Chakwera’s visit to Berlin has been hailed as a success, marked by fruitful engagements and renewed partnerships that are expected to bolster Malawi’s development trajectory. He is set to depart Berlin later today, returning to Malawi after what has been a highly productive working visit.
