President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has lauded The Global Fund for its unwavering dedication to combating infectious diseases and improving health systems in Malawi. Speaking at the opening of the 52nd Global Fund Board Meeting in Lilongwe, the President highlighted the profound impact of the Fund’s initiatives on the nation’s health sector.
“Malawi has experienced firsthand the positive contributions of The Global Fund. It has been a true partner in our journey to provide quality health services and combat infectious diseases,” said President Chakwera.
He further noted that the Fund has been instrumental in supporting his vision to construct health centers nationwide, ensuring accessible healthcare for all Malawians.
The Minister of Health, Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda, echoed the President’s sentiments, expressing gratitude to The Global Fund for choosing Malawi as the host for the board meeting. She emphasized the importance of the Fund’s support in implementing various health projects across the country.
Roslyn Moraute, Chairperson of The Global Fund’s Board, commended Malawi’s commitment to advancing global health priorities. She highlighted the country’s resilience and notable achievements in implementing Global Fund projects, even amidst challenges posed by three major cyclones from 2022 to 2023.
“Malawi’s progress in fighting infectious diseases and building robust health systems is commendable,” she stated.
Dr. Jean Kaseya, Director General of the Africa Centre for Disease Control (Africa CDC), praised President Chakwera’s leadership, particularly in the Tithetse Cholera Campaign. He emphasized the need for increased domestic resources to sustain health programs, noting the importance of collaboration between leaders like President Chakwera and partners such as The Global Fund.
The meeting, held under the theme “Stop at Nothing: Uniting to Build a Healthier, Safer, Equitable Future,” provides a platform for transparency and accountability among global health partners. It is set to conclude on November 22, offering opportunities for collaboration in strengthening health delivery systems across Africa.
