President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fostering industrialisation in Malawi, emphasizing the creation of an enabling environment for industries to thrive. Speaking on Monday during a visit to Raiply Malawi Limited’s factory in Mzimba, the President highlighted industrialisation as a cornerstone of Malawi 2063, the nation’s long-term development strategy.
“Through Malawi 2063, we are aspiring as a country to become industrialised by the year 2063, so that we can turn from a predominantly importing nation to an exporting one,” said Chakwera. “In such a way, we will be able to get more forex and create jobs for more people.”
President Chakwera commended Raiply Malawi Limited for its significant contribution to national development through the production of wood products for both local and export markets, as well as for its role in creating employment.
During his visit, the President toured the factory’s pole treatment plant, ply mill, and medium-density fibreboard plant to gain insights into its operations. He concluded the visit by planting a tree near the main entrance of the factory, symbolising his administration’s support for sustainable development.
President Chakwera’s visit to Raiply underscores the government’s push to transform Malawi’s economic landscape by promoting industrial growth and reducing dependence on imports, a vision central to the Malawi 2063 blueprint.
The President later departed for Lilongwe, reiterating his government’s dedication to supporting industries that align with the country’s development goals.
