PEOPLE’S PARTY URGES WOMEN TO LEAD IN 2025 ELECTIONS

The People’s Party (PP) has called on Malawian women to actively engage in politics and contest for elective positions in the 2025 general elections.

Speaking at a women’s conference held at Robins Park in Zomba, Beatrice Mwale, the PP Director of Women, emphasized the need for women to take a leading role in shaping the nation’s future. She urged attendees to stand up and participate in politics, stating that women are uniquely positioned to address the welfare of the people.

“It is time for women to rise and be active in politics. Women understand the needs of communities better and can lead effectively,” Mwale said.

Mwale also rallied support for PP President Joyce Banda, calling her a visionary leader capable of transforming Malawi. She encouraged the women present to mobilize men and young voters to back Banda in the 2025 presidential elections.

“Joyce Banda proved her capability during her tenure from 2012 to 2014. We had stable electricity, plenty of fuel, and lower prices of goods compared to the current situation,” she added.

Edith Kachale Banda, the PP Director of International Relations, confirmed that the conference also served to announce Joyce Banda’s intention to run for the presidency in 2025. She called on women to support fellow women candidates in the elections, aligning with the 50-50 gender representation campaign.

“Encouraging women to vote for women is crucial for achieving gender balance in leadership,” she said.

The event, attended by over 5,000 women from across Zomba, highlighted the importance of women’s participation in politics as a key step toward achieving national development and gender equality.
