PROFESSOR MOTO APPOINTED VICE CHANCELLOR OF CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY OF MALAWI

The Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM) has appointed Professor Francis Moto as the new Vice Chancellor of the Catholic University of Malawi (CUNIMA). ECM President, Archbishop George Desmond Tambala, announced this decision through a press statement, indicating that Professor Moto will assume his duties in January of next year.

Archbishop Tambala, who also serves as Chancellor of the Catholic University, described Professor Moto as an ideal candidate for the position, citing his extensive academic qualifications, which include a Doctorate Degree in Philosophy (PhD) and a Master’s Degree in Linguistics.

Professor Moto previously held the position of Principal at the University of Malawi’s former Chancellor College, where he also served as Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Head of the Department of African Languages and Linguistics.

Following his retirement from the University of Malawi, he was appointed as Malawi’s Ambassador to Brazil, Japan, and Germany, where he served with distinction.

Professor Moto’s appointment follows the passing of Associate Professor Ruth Ngeyi Kanyongolo, who served as Vice Chancellor of CUNIMA until her death on October 28, 2024, at Mwaiwathu Private Hospital in Blantyre after a short illness.
