CHAKWERA HAILS MISSION 300 SUMMIT AS KEY TO MALAWI’S ENERGY FUTURE

President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has described the Mission 300 Energy Summit as “crucial and instrumental” in ensuring access to electricity for all Malawians.

Speaking after inspecting a Guard of Honour at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe today, ahead of his departure for Tanzania, President Chakwera underscored the importance of energy in achieving the country’s development vision. “Energy is an essential enabler of development,” he stated.

The President highlighted his administration’s achievements in doubling access to energy over the past four years, raising coverage from 10% to 25%. He reaffirmed the government’s ambitious target to increase electricity access to 75% by 2030, with support from the Mission 300 initiative.

Acknowledging the critical role of partners, Dr. Chakwera commended the World Bank and the African Development Bank for their contributions toward Malawi’s energy goals. “I aim to attend this summit to kickstart this significant project, which concerns the entire continent,” he said.

President Chakwera reassured Malawians that initiatives like Mission 300 will address key national priorities, including food security, wealth creation, job opportunities, agricultural productivity, urbanization, and industrialization.

Accompanying the President to Tanzania are several high-ranking officials, including Minister of Justice Titus Mvalo, Secretary to the Office of the President and Cabinet Collen Zamba, Lilongwe Mayor Esther Sagawa, and other senior government representatives.
